These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel on this side of the Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain opposite Suph, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

O Lord God, you have begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like your works and your mighty deeds?

“Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers.

“Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:

“You shall appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with just judgment.”

“When you go out to war against your enemies, and the Lord your God delivers them into your hand, and you take them captive,

And it shall be, when you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, and you possess it and dwell in it”

Today you are standing, all of you, before Adonai your God  your heads, your tribes, your leaders and your officers  all the men of Israel

“Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a Shabbat-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.

Moshe went and spoke the following words to all Israel:

The tenth day of this seventh month is Yom-Kippur; you are to have a holy convocation, you are to deny yourselves, and you are to bring an offering made by fire to Adonai.

Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
